Belgaum: The Belgaum Zilla Panchayat has sent a report to the Government regarding the requirements of 70 villages selected for implementation of the special "Suvarna Gramodaya" scheme in the district. According to officials sources here on Wednesday, the Government had selected 96 villages for implementation of the scheme in the district and had asked the authorities to submit a report on requirements of individual villages, so that necessary funds could be sanctioned. The reports were prepared according to the guidelines issued by the Government with the assistance of voluntary organisations, which had surveyed the selected villages and identified their requirements. The reports were sent to the Government only after approval was obtained from the gram panchayats concerned. The scheme, which was launched by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as part of the 50th anniversary of the State's formation with the objective of extending the benefits of the scheme to nearly 1,000 villages every year, aims to bring about their comprehensive development. In Athani taluk, eleven villages have been selected under the scheme, in which the NGO Vimochana Society, Athani, will be involved. Similarly, Neravu Kittur, Kittur, and Vishwa Integrated Rural Development Society, Belgaum, will be involved in implementing the scheme in ten villages of Bailhongal taluk; the Belgaum-based Parivarthana Rural Development Society and Bharath Matha Rural Development Society in twelve villages of Belgaum taluk; Chaitanya Social Welfare Society, Mudalgi, in eight villages of Gokak taluk; Kavitha Rural Development Society and Hukkeri, Kanagla Farmers Sports and Cultural Society in ten villages of Hukkeri taluk; Rural Development Society, Kakti, in eight villages of Khanapur taluk; Village and City Development Society, Raibag, and Pragatipara Rural Development Society, Harkeri, in Raibag taluk; Jaiprakash Narayan International Rural Development Society, Kulkod, in Gokak taluk and Smt. Eramma Shivalingapa Yadwad Memmorial Seva Samiti, Batkurki, in eight villages of Ramdurg taluk; and Padmawati Self Help Group and Pragati Self Help Group in eight villages of Saundatti taluk.
