VILLUPURAM : Rose (35), an Information Technology-savvy transgender, has proposed to set up a self-help venture in Chennai. The `aravaani,' (as transgendered persons are known) proposes to give priority to employing transgendered persons in the company.

Having done an M.S degree in bioengineering from the United States, Rose took to Information Technology, and has a wide client base extending to Australia and the United Kingdom. Rose has already approached the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu for the provision of necessary infrastructure and the latter is reported to be favourably disposed towards the proposal.

The aravaani told The Hindu that the Social Welfare Board had indicated it was willing to do the funding. The venture's estimated cost is Rs 11 lakh, and a project proposal is being drafted.

Rose said initially 15 eligible transgendered persons would be identified for placement; the numbers would increase subsequently.
