B. Muralidhar Reddy

COLOMBO: The Sri Lankan military said on Wednesday 13 cadres of the Tamil Tigers and a home guard were killed in the northern and eastern parts in the last 24 hours.

In a statement here, the military said army troops on patrol in the Mannar Forward Defence Line areas were confronted by the LTTE several times and at least 10 Tiger cadres were killed in exchange of fire.

Three LTTE cadres were killed in Weli-Oya area in north-central province on Tuesday. "Troops retaliated and [the] intercepted LTTE radio transmission had confirmed that three terrorists were killed in the confrontation." In Batticaloa district, the home guard was killed in an alleged LTTE gunfire on Wednesday. The Eravur police said the LTTE gunmen fired at a police jeep. The naval troops in Talaimannar area apprehended six barrels of diesel, each containing 210 litres, which were prepared to be transported to the un-liberated Vedithalathivu area also on Wednesday.
