Roadmap sought

Haroon Habib

DHAKA: Sheikh Hasina, former Prime Minister and chief of the 14-party alliance, has assured the military-backed interim government her support but asked it to outline the election plans. "I will continue to support all good activities of the Government," she said at a select gathering at the London's School of Economics on Tuesday. The Awami League president, who was recently barred by the interim government from returning to Bangladesh (which was subsequently withdrawn) demanded early commencement of the stalled general election process to establish a "representative and accountable government". She said the interim government of Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed should not stay in office "too long". A close aide of Sheikh Hasina said he was likely to return home on May 7.
