Mizoram steamrollers Uttarakhand

Rourkela: Mizoram crushed Uttarakhand 15-0 and Tamil Nadu edged out Assam 2-1 to seal places in the super-12 phase of the 15th senior National Women's Football championship here and in Sundargarh on Wednesday.

Striker Lalhmangaihi and Lalvarmawhmar scored five and four goals respectively to fashion the goal rush for Mizoram. Lalramhluni found the net twice.

Maharashtra defeated Jharkhand 2-1 after leading 1-0 at the interval. Striker Jenner Rayar and Kanchan scored for the winner.

Karnataka beat Uttar Pradesh 2-1 in an inconsequential match.

Orissa, Haryana, Tripura, Bihar, Maharashtra, Mizoram and Tamil Nadu have entered the next phase of the tournament while the best loser from the preliminary league matches would also go through to the super-12 stage.

Bengal, Kerala, Goa and Manipur had been seeded to the super-12 on the basis of their performances in the last championship. — PTI
