BSP has the edge after phase V: survey

NEW DELHI: A survey by CNN-IBN-Indian Express has predicted that the Bahujan Samajwadi Party led by Mayawati is poised to get 103-109 seats out of 292 seats, for which polling has been held so far in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

If the same trend continues, the BSP is likely to emerge the biggest party with 145-155 seats in the 403-member House, says the post-poll survey.

After the first five phases, Mulayam Singh's Samajwadi Party is projected to get 75-81 seats, followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies with 65-71, the Congress with 19-23 and others 17-21.

If the same trend as seen in the survey continues, the SP is expected to get 100-110 seats, followed by the BJP and its allies with 90-100 and the Congress and others with 25-30.

Vote share

The BSP's vote share after the fifth phase is likely to be 28 per cent, a swing of six per cent, followed by the SP's 24 per cent, minus one per cent, the BJP and its allies with 22 per cent, a swing of one per cent.

The Congress' vote share has been predicted at 10 per cent with no gain. — PTI
