S. Railway wins

Dindigul: Southern Railway, Chennai, lifted the Cauvery Ammal memorial Trophy defeating the defending champion, B.S.N.L, Chennai 97-86 in the last match of the semifinal round robin league of the 15th annual State-level basketball tournament, organised by Cauvery Ammal Basketball Club near here on Tuesday night.

Southern Railway emerged winner with an all-win record and BSNL finished runner-up losing only to Southern Railway. Port Trust Tuticorin finished third with its only win over Armed Police, Chennai 62-53 in another match.

The results: Southern Railway 97 (Saravanan 33, Leonard Charles 18, Navaneethan 10) bt BSNL, Chennai 86 (Gnanavel 25, Sivarajan 25, Saravanan 15).

Third place match: Port Trust, Tuticorin 62 (Ramesh 15, Senthil 15) bt Armed Police, Chennai 53 (Karthik 15, Raman 11).

Hat-trick by Satheesh

A hat-trick by striker Satheesh helped Sporting Union Football Club, Chennai defeat host Blues Football Club 5-2 and enter the quarterfinals of the 24th Champion Club football tournament for Universal Trophy, after leading 4-0 at half time, at near Karaikudi on Wednesday.

Balamurugan opened the account for Sporting Union in the 10th minute and Satheesh scored three goals (15th, 40th, 43rd) in a row for his hat-trick. Kabur scored the fifth (47th) before Syed Mohamed (51st) and Saravanan (89th) scored two goals for Blues Club.

In another match, Youth Football Club, Krishnagiri posted an emphatic 4-0 win over Gowthika Football Club, Nagapattinam. Sivakumar (7th, 60th), Asan (18th) and Kalaikovan (65th) scored.

PBC posts win

Pattiveeranpatti Basketball Club beat Walkers Basketball Club, Virudhunagar 41-31 in the inaugural match of the fifth Arokya Trophy State-level basketball tournament organised by Kamaraj Basketball Club at Virudhunagar on Wednesday.

The results: Pattiveeranpatti BC 41 (Amarnath 14) bt Walkers BC 31 (Madhan Prabu 10).
