Privilege move against CM disallowed

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Speaker R. Avudaiappan on Wednesday disallowed a demand by MLAs of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to raise a privilege issue against Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in the Assembly.

Denying permission, the Speaker said he did not find any grounds for the AIADMK MLAs' charge against the Chief Minister.

Protesting against the Speaker's ruling, the AIADMK members staged a walkout. They returned after some time.

The AIADMK MLAs had given the Speaker a notice on April 28. He had informed them that he would go through their notice and take a decision.

On Wednesday, immediately after the session began, the MLAs sought to know the Speaker's decision.
