I am ill, says Vikas

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Nitish Katara murder case prime accused Vikas Yadav on Wednesday told the court that he is ill and depressed and that the doctors are not correctly diagnosing his problems. Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur then postponed the recording of his statement to this coming Monday.

This past Monday, Vikas had not recorded his statement claiming that he was suffering from diarrhoea and a severe throat pain. The court then deferred the recording of his statement for Wednesday. However, in his preliminary statement prior to Monday, Vikas had denied having known Nitish.

In the meantime, Vikas was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where the doctors attending on him certified that he was fit. On Wednesday, Vikas told the court that he was not fit and that the doctors had not attended to him properly. Vikas also told the court that he had been in jail for the past five years and this had taken a toll on his health. He also said he was undergoing acute depression.

However, the public prosecutor opposed Vikas's contention, telling the court that it was a ploy to delay the proceedings. Prior to Vikas, his cousin and co-accused Vishal Yadav had recorded his statement before the court. With the High Court directing the Sessions court to complete the trial in the case by May 31, the Sessions court had started day-to-day hearing from April 17.
