NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Wednesday framed charges against Sher Singh Rana and four others in the Tihar jail break case. Sher Singh, prime accused in the Phoolan Devi murder case, had managed to escape from Tihar Central Jail here on May 6, 2004. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Seema Maini framed the charges against Sher Singh and his alleged accomplices Sunil Kumar Aggarwal, Sandeep Thakur, Vikram Rana and Sarwan Kumar under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating) and 417 (using forged document as genuine). Appearing before the court on Wednesday, Sher Singh pleaded not guilty and claimed trial. Following his escape, Sher Singh allegedly had been provided shelter by Sarwan Kumar at his residence as per plan. He was arrested for the second time at a hotel in Kolkata on April 24, 2006. At the time, he was found in possession of a forged passport that was issued in the name of one Sanjay Gupta, but having his photograph and signature.
