BHUBANESWAR: Continuing with its renewed thrust on public-private partnership, the State government on Wednesday signed an MoU with two city-based cultural organisations to host regular monthly cultural programmes in the State capital. Culture Secretary Gopinath Mohanty told The Hindu that as per the agreement between the department and the two cultural outfits, Bhubaneswar Music Circle and Bengali cultural organisation Pragati will organise cultural evenings at Rabindra Mandap on the third Saturday and the following Sunday of every month respectively. "The auditorium will be provided free of fee while the organisations will look after artistes' honorarium and allied expenses. The thrust will be on providing platform and patronage to dying art traditions of the State," he said.
Coordination
Mr. Mohanty further maintained the department has made elaborate arrangements to develop coordination among major cultural organisations of the city to evolve a fixed monthly cultural calendar for the capital. "This will help people and tour operators plan out their evenings on those days," he felt. The department has assigned Odissi Research Centre and Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, two city-based premiere institutions of performing arts, to host the monthly sangeetayana programme on second Saturdays and following Sundays at Rabindra Mandap respectively. Having a large number of dancers and musicians as their students, the institutions will be able to put up impressive performance, the secretary observed and added that it would provide the much-needed opportunity for the budding artistes to prove their potential.
