HYDERABAD: First year MBBS students were upbeat following the High Court order on Tuesday clearing the revaluation of the answer papers of the exams they had taken in September-October last. However, their happiness may be short-lived. The Government is examining several options, including going in for an appeal before the court for a review of its order.
New in-charge V-C
Meanwhile, Health Secretary P.V. Ramesh has been made in-charge Vice-Chancellor of Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences. This follows expiry of the term of R. Sambasiva Rao as V-C. Sources said the Government was planning to contest the court order on the ground that these students were declared passed in the exams after `re-valuation' of the answer papers and not due to `re-totalling' of marks for which they had applied. In all, 4,076 first year MBBS students appeared for the exams. Out of them, 992 students failed and of them, 434 applied for re-totalling. After revaluation, 294 students were declared passed. The university, however, annulled the results following a decision by its Executive Council (EC) which reportedly differed with the V-C. The court issued interim orders enabling the students to attend classes. In view of the split opinion within the university, the issue was referred to the Governor, who is the Chancellor of the university. The Governor upheld the view taken by the EC before the court order came out.
