New Delhi: Apparently sticking to the seniority rule, BJP chief Rajnath Singh has said that his predecessor L.K. Advani would be the party's candidate for the Prime Minister's post after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, as he had ruled himself out of the race for the top job.
Natural choice
``Who after Atal...? It will be only Advani after Atal. He will be the natural choice. Only he should become the Prime Minister. This is the law of nature, with which Rajnath cannot fight,'' Mr. Singh told NDTV. The BJP chief, however, parried a question regarding the party's choice for President. ``Let the elections in Uttar Pradesh get over first. A meeting of the party's parliamentary board will be called [to decide on the matter],'' he said when asked whether the party would prefer a second term for President Kalam. Asked about his comments on the fake encounter case in Gujarat, Mr. Singh said he believed the Government would do no wrong. He praised Chief Minister Narendra Modi for developing Gujarat as a ``model'' State.
Criticises Mulayam
Speaking at an election meeting in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Singh described the Mulayam Singh Government as the worst in the country. It had no moral right to continue in office even for a day, he said. The BJP chief asked the electorate to vote for his party, which alone, he said, could ensure all-round development of Uttar Pradesh. Criticising Mr. Mulayam Singh and Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati, the BJP leader said they were behaving as if they were poised to form the next HGovernment in the state. This showed they were unaware of the ground realities, he told the rally. PTI
