ANANTAPUR: In spite of the apprehensions in the two communities involved in the clashes at Kadiri in the district on Monday, normalcy was restored on Wednesday. Though the police lifted restrictions imposed under Section 144 of IPC, the police pickets were still posted.

Superintendent of Police M.S. Raveendra visited the old Harijanawada locality where arson took place and assured victims of compensation as per the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act. In all, 13 police pickets, eight mobile parties, five patrolling parties and other force were overseeing the law and order situation. The SP told newspersons in Kadiri that 23 cases were registered so far on the basis of complaints lodged by the victims and 13 persons taken into custody. A case was also registered against G. He stated that security in the town would be strengthened by Friday. He asserted that none involved in the violence would be spared.
