KOCHI: A Class IX student of Holy Family Girls' High School at Angamaly committed suicide at the school on Wednesday after finding out that she had failed in the annual examination. Thulasimol P.S of Punnelil Veedu, Mekkad, was found hanging in the school corridor. She had come to the school to check out the results of the annual examination published on Wednesday morning. The school authorities found the body around 10 a.m. after being informed by the students. Police personnel removed the body from the school premises. The school management said the student could not clear the annual examination as she had scored `E' grade in a subject. According to new rules, a student who scores E grade will be considered as having `failed.' Five students of Class IX had failed in the examination. School authorities said the student could not secure the average marks required to secure a promotion to Class X. "We had informed the parents earlier that the student was weak in some of the subjects. The incident was a real shock to all of us as nobody could prevent her from the act. She might have reached the school early in the morning to see the results," said a teacher of the school. The Angamaly police said the body was taken to Alappuzha Medical College for the post-mortem.
