MANGALORE: Deputy Commissioner M. Maheshwara Rao has directed Assistant Commissioners of Puttur and Mangalore revenue sub-divisions to train inspectors appointed under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 and secretaries of gram panchayats about the Act before May 15. Mr. Rao has appointed the Assistant Commissioners as supervisory officers for the inspectors. According to an official press release here, the Assistant Commissioners will review the progress in development works in each taluk headquarters and train the inspectors. Taking cognisance of the absence of many inspectors at the training programmes organised for them earlier, the Deputy Commissioner has directed the Assistant Commissioners to initiate disciplinary action against them. Mr. Rao had recently directed the heads of department to sign a declaration stating that they were not employing children below 14 years as domestic help at their residence.
