Scamster faces extra year under Goondas Act

CHENNAI
: A prison term for an MBA graduate, arrested for defrauding banks with fake documents, was extended by a year under the Goondas Act.
This is the first time that the Act is being invoked against an accused in a bank fraud case, said a press note from the Assistant Commissioner, CCB, Egmore.
34-year-old Kaattupakkam resident, Adhikesavan, and wife Masila, a doctor, had taken loans totalling over Rs. 1.50 crore from banks in the city providing fake property documents in 2004.
The Central Crime Branch had registered a case against the accused and arrested him on February 2 this year. On recommendation from the Additional and Assistant Commissioner, his sentence was extended by a year under the Goondas Act. The order was served on Tuesday.
