Saint-poet Annamayya's anniversary celebrated

It featured the rendition of about 200 of the poet's songs

CHENNAI: About 400 people sang `keerthanais' composed by saint-poet Annamayya at his 599th anniversary celebrations on Wednesday.

The celebrations featured the rendition of about 200 of the poet's songs during a marathon session that lasted nearly 10 hours. The event was jointly organised by the Indian Telugu Association, Chennai, and IIT Madras Telugu Samskruthika Samithi.

Commissioner of Land Reforms V. Varaprasada Rao distributed certificates presented by Andhra Pradesh Government Cultural Authority.

Thallapaka Meenalochani, the 12th descendant of Annamayya, participated.
