Water level

MADURAI : The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 109 feet (136 feet) with no inflow and discharge. The level into the Vaigai dam was 30.09 feet (71 feet) with an inflow of 55 cusecs and a discharge of 41 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 863 mcft.

Three hacked

A gang allegedly hacked three persons at Mudakku Salai here on Tuesday night.

The police said N. Rajangam (60) had been objecting to M. Muthiah parking his vehicle in front of his house.

A wordy duel resulted in Muthiah along with six others attacking Rajangam and two of his relatives with weapons.

While two including, Muthiah, have been arrested, the Karimedu police are on the lookout for others.

Elected

A. Purushothaman has been unanimously elected governor of Rotary District 3000 of Rotary International for 2009-2010.

According to a press release, Rotary District 3000 comprises Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruchi, Perambalur, Karur and Pudukkottai revenue districts.

Mr. Purushothaman, who was the past president of Rotary Club of Madurai West, is an executive member of the Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Lions governor

T. Pandiarajan has been elected governor of Lions Club International District 324 B3 for 2007-08 at a district convention held recently.

R.K. Thangaraj was elected vice-district governor.

According to a press release, the district governor-elect has nominated S. Murali as cabinet secretary, Rm. Ramu cabinet treasurer, P. Radha Krishnan joint secretary, C. Gnanasekar joint treasurer, M. Nagasundaram additional cabinet secretary and G. Hare Krishnan additional cabinet treasurer.

Lions Club International District 324 B3 comprises Madurai, Sivaganga, Dindigul and Theni revenue districts.

Examinations

The BGL/BL/ML degree examinations of April 2005, conducted by Madurai Kamaraj University, will commence on May 14.

They will be conducted at the Directorate of Distance Education seminar buildings.

Hall tickets had already been sent to candidates, a varsity press release said, and those who had not received them could contact the office of the Controller of Examinations. The varsity said that this would be the last chance for candidates to appear for the above examinations.
