Dattatreya wants all-party meeting convened

  • Chief Minister faulted for not visiting violence victims
  • Ex gratia sought for 25 Dalit families

HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party president Bandaru Dattatreya has asked the State Government to order a high-level probe into violence in Kadiri town in Anantapur district in the last two days.

Mr. Dattatreya, who toured the violence-hit town and was subsequently arrested by the local police, addressed a press conference here on Wednesday.

He demanded that the Government should take a serious note of the `volatile' situation and convene an all-party meeting.

    YSR faulted

He also found fault with the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy not visiting the victims of the violence even though he had toured Anantapur district on Tuesday. He wanted the Government to pay ex gratia to 25 Dalit families whose houses were allegedly destroyed by people belonging to the minority community.

He alleged that attacks on Dalits were `pre-planned' and said that after the police had acted tough against the guilty, `pressure' was being put on the police to drop the cases against some political leaders.

"Dalits are being threatened to withdraw cases against the perpetrators of violence," he explained.
