LOUD AND CLEAR: MLA P. Sasidhar Reddy protesting on the Assembly premises on Wednesday.
HYDERABAD: Janata Party MLA and an associate member of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), P. Sashidhar Reddy, staged a dharna in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Assembly premises on Wednesday. He was protesting against news reports in the local media about his involvement in the fake passport scandal. Earlier, he addressed a letter to the Speaker, K. R. Suresh Reddy, seeking action against a Telugu daily for damaging his reputation by planting false stories. Chairman of the Privileges Committee, Gade Venkat Reddy, and MLCs G.Rudra Raju and R. Padmaraju, joined him for 10 minutes to declare their solidarity. Mr. Venkat Reddy later persuaded Mr. Sashidhar Reddy to end his dharna. Speaking to reporters later, Mr. Sashidhar Reddy produced a letter written by the Commissioner of Police to the paper clarifying that there was no enquiry against the MLA or the others mentioned in the report on May 1. The Police Commissioner's rejoinder stated that police had no information regarding the involvement of the MLA along with others in the scandal. The others include Bajireddi Govardhan, Turpu Jayaprakash Reddy, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, MLAs, S. Venugopalachary, Malyala Rajaiah, former MPs, K. Ramakanth, ex-MLA, and Jetti Kusuma Kumar.
