HYDERABAD: Police searched the quarters of TRS legislator Kasipeta Lingaiah at Erramanzil Colony in Hyderabad, on Wednesday and were stated to have seized some documents relating to ration cards and LPG connection. Mr. Lingaiah is in judicial custody after he got embroiled in an emigration racket. The legislator from Nerella constituency in Karimnagar district had surrendered himself before the court recently after a criminal case was registered against him on charge of securing passport for a woman in his wife's name. He was taken into police custody by the Hyderabad Detective Department officials for further interrogation on Wednesday.
Counsel present
After questioning him till evening, a police team led by Inspector T.S.R. Prasad opened the MLA's quarter no. A6/4) in the presence of the MLA's counsel M. Vijay Kanth. The quarter had been sealed on Tuesday soon after the court allowed the search warrant petition filed by police. "My client complained of headache and authorised me to be present when the quarters was opened and its premises searched," the lawyer told reporters.
LPG agent questioned
Police sources said that special teams questioned an LPG supplying agent from whom the MLA secured gas supply connection papers in his wife's name. Abhilash Reddy, a software engineer residing in a house in front of the MLA's quarter said, Mr. Lingaih hardly came to his quarters or resided there. "He used the quarters only when the Assembly was in session. I don't remember seeing his family members either," he told the reporters. However, a month ago a woman had checked into the quarters and left after a couple of days, he said.
