`Government cannot escape responsibility'

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) deputy leader G. Karthikeyan and Thiruvananthapuram DCC president V.S. Sivakumar have asked the Government to come clean on the death of newborns at SAT Hospital here due to "hospital-acquired infection."

Addressing a news conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Karthikeyan and Mr. Sivakumar said the reports from SAT Hospital were alarming and regretted that the Government was not forthcoming with information about the real situation. Although they had visited the hospital along with M.M. Hassan, there was nobody to give them any proper information on the situation.

They said the deaths due to acquired infection showed that there was all round irresponsibility. The Government cannot evade responsibility for the incident by merely initiating action against doctors. There was certainly failure on the part of the nursing and support staff as well.
