A day to remember for Harshita
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Yalamanchili Harshitha, the 10-year-old student of St. Ann's School, has been awarded the Disney Hand Minnie Grant Award by the Youth Service America (YSA) for conducting community-based programmes. She received $ 500.
At a press conference here on Wednesday, Pratap Suryadevara, president of In Pharm, which supported Harshitha's application, said the grant amount was for the community programme on road safety. As part of this, elocution competitions were conducted on traffic problems and road safety bulletins were distributed in schools and in communities.
The bulletins contained information on precautions to be taken while going to school on foot and by bus, guidelines for parents and first aid. The girl received the award for a second time; the earlier one was for her community-based programme on malnutrition.
Harshitha's application was forwarded by In Pharm Association as individual applications were not accepted by YSA and Mr. Suryadevara expressed keenness to support similar programmes in future.
