High Court pulls up Centre

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday came down heavily on the Centre for failing to take action against illegal constructions raised by the Delhi State Bharat Scout Guides (DSBSG) near Humayun Tomb in Nizamuddin area here.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna directed the Central Government to initiate proceedings against the erring officer in the department of Land and Development Office for not complying with the Bench's earlier order asking them to take action against the organisation.

Man commits suicide

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old man has committed suicide by setting himself afire here in Patel Nagar.

According to the police, Hira Singh had not been getting along well with his wife Jaspal Kaur since their marriage nearly six years ago. Recently she along with her three-year-old son went away to stay with her parents in Patel Nagar. On Tuesday, Hira came to his in-laws' house to take her back home. When she refused, he allegedly set himself on fire outside the house. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died on Wednesday morning.

Held for allegedly assaulting minor girl

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old man has been arrested at Samaipur Badli here for alleged criminal assault on a minor girl.

According to the police, Dharmender, a private electrician, forcibly entered a jhuggi on Tuesday night and criminally assaulted a seven-year-old girl. The girl was alone in the jhuggi at the time of the incident. Her parents reported the matter to the police on Wednesday morning and the accused was arrested.

One killed in accident

NEW DELHI: A 24-year-old man was killed and his 22-year-old friend injured when they were hit by a Blueline bus at Chankayapuri here on Wednesday.

According to the police, the speeding bus hit the bicycles of Rahul and Ramchander near the Polish Embassy at 11-30 a.m. Rahul, a native of Orissa, died on the spot and Ramchander was taken to a nearby hospital. The bus has been impounded and the driver arrested.

Bank asked to pay compensation

NEW DELHI: The State Consumer Commission has asked the Citi Bank to pay Rs.55,000 as compensation to a man who was forced to scuttle his foreign trip after his credit card was impounded by a merchant at Hannover, Germany.

The Commission Bench headed by Justice J D Kapoor held the bank guilty of causing mental agony and loss of reputation to one Dinesh Parwanda who had to abandon his business trip to Moscow and returned home from Hannover itself.

Man sent to judicial custody

NEW DELHI: A man, who cheated two businessmen of Rs.25 lakh claiming to be a brother of an MP has been sent to 14 days judicial custody by a city court.
