This Day That Age
The Madras Chief Minister, Mr. K. Kamaraj, has said that the tendency on the part of different communities to claim special privileges would disappear once they brought about all-round progress on the economic plane. Speaking at a party organised by the Madras State Christian Association at the YWCA, he said the Congress Government did not attach any importance to differences based on religious or communal considerations. It was not fair that certain sections should claim special privileges on the ground that they belonged to the under-privileged communities. Every citizen should be given the opportunity to enjoy equal rights. The differences based on religious and communal considerations were rooted in the economic backwardness of the people. Once they succeeded in bringing about all-round progress on the economic front, these differences would disappear.
