Special Correspondent
Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy told the Leader of the Opposition A.M.H. Nazeem (DMK) in the Assembly on Thursday that the Government was studying ways to ensure a railway line between Nagore and Karaikal. He was replying to Mr. Nazeem's question on what decision the Government had taken to share the cost of laying the line between Nagore and Karaikal. Mr Rangasamy said the cost of laying the line would be around Rs 66 crore.
Project funding
After going into the details of the project, it was felt that the Railway Ministry could bear the full cost, and the Puducherry Government had conveyed this to the railway authorities. The matter would be taken up again at a meeting with the railway officials soon. If the Railways did not find it feasible, the Government would consider bearing 50 per cent of the cost. Mr Rangasamy told N. Anandhu (PMC) that a road overbridge across the level crossing on Puducherry-Cuddalore route would be constructed soon as the Railway's Department`s consent was already available. The Chief Engineer of the Southern Railways and also the Chief Engineer of PWD here would conduct a survey jointly to study the soundness of the site.
