TIRUPATI: State secretary of the CPI K. Narayana has said that the MPs and MLAs allegedly involved in smuggling human beings abroad should be barred from politics. Speaking at a press conference here on Thursday, he said they must not be allowed to enter the portals of Parliament and Legislative Assemblies irrespective of their party affiliations and their political clout. Mr. Narayana said that by smuggling women using fake passports, the elected representatives had not only brought disrepute to the Indian polity but to the entire womenfolk.
Congress cautioned
The CPI leader said that though the party was giving outside support to the UPA, it was not compromising on taking up the cudgels against the Congress whenever it deviated from the common minimum programme and tried to pursue `anti-people' policies. He said the Congress must shed its ivory tower approach in tackling the day-to-day problems of the less privileged. He visited some of the far-flung colonies around Tirupati . In Tarakaramanagar, women complained to Mr. Narayana about official apathy in tackling basic problems such as drinking water scarcity, lack of electricity and good roads and proper drainage facility.
