ANANTAPUR: Local Congress leaders lead by legislator J. Ramaiah, former Minister Mohd. Shakir, former Municipal Chairman N. Muzaffar Ali and others visited a Dalit locality in Kadiri in the district on Thursday, which was allegedly attacked by people belonging to another community. They also visited another locality where a few houses were attacked on Saturday night and consoled the affected families. They assured all help from the Government. Talking to newspersons later, the Congress leaders said innocents will not be harassed by the police but those involved in the arson will have to face legal cases. They spoke to people of both the communities and said that both sides had agreed to withdraw their complaints against each other. They also appealed to people not to believe in rumours that they would be spared from cases if they pay money and not to fall in the trap of elements which are trying to exploit the situation. Meanwhile, the police arrested six Awaz and CPI leaders.
