VISAKHAPATNAM: The `City of Destiny' became the first Tier II destination in the State to get an IT player of global repute with the inauguration of Satyam City Center by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday. Satyam has invested Rs.55 crore on the city center, near Bullayya College, with plans to employ 2,000 people. It will develop a special economic zone (SEZ) on 50 acres allotted to it near Bheemunipatnam with an employment potential for 8,000 to 10,000 people.
Pyrotechnics' show
Inaugurating the center after a show of pyrotechnics and a hi-tech presentation on a mega screen on its mission, Dr. Reddy urged Satyam to establish centers at other Tier II destinations like Vijayawada, Warangal and in Rayalaseema. "Whatever infrastructure they need, we are ready to offer," he said. The Chief Minister said the service and tourism sector had tremendous potential to grow while agriculture had no such promise. Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy said the entry of Satyam would usher in a new era in the development of Visakhapatnam and complimented the Chief Minister for his initiative to focus on developing IT cities and towns. Satyam Computers Services Limited Chairman B. Ramalinga Raju said the company felt proud to be associated with Visakhapatnam. "I am confident that our company will do well here and we in Satyam do believe that IT has created a value system in a borderless manner," he said. Satyam Computers Managing Director B. Ramaraju, Mayor P. Janardhana Rao, S. Rangaraju and T. Gurumurthy Reddy, MLAs, District Collector A.K. Singthal and others were present.
