University of Culture to have its own campus

ICCR chairpersion Karan Singh to lay stone on May 8

BHUBANESWAR: The eight-year-old Utkal University of Culture, the first of its kind in the country, will finally have its own campus on the outskirts of the city here on May 8. It will hold its second convocation ceremony at the Jayadev Bhawan here during the day.

Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, University Vice-Chancellor Mr. Sadhu Charan Panda said Indian Council of Cultural Relations chairperson Karan Singh will lay the foundation stone of the permanent campus at Madanpur in the presence of Goveror Rameshwar Thakur and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Mr.Singh will later address the convocation ceremony of the University at Jayadev Bhawan that will be chaired by Mr.Thakur.

For their pioneering contribution to the field of music, literature and art, Akademi awardee versatile Odissi vocalist Kasinath Pujapanda, eminent writer Ramakant Rath and New Delhi-based internationally acclaimed painter Jatin Das will be conferred the honorary Doctorate of Literature on the occasion respectively, he added.

Language programme

The university will launch Korean language teaching programme in September this year with support from the Korean steel giant Posco which is setting up a steel plant in the State.

A professor from Korea will head the department that will have an intake capacity for 30 students, he .

In association with the tourism department, the university will launch a three-month certificate course for tourist guides at Konark from the next academic session.
