Met office forecasts thundershowers on Friday too

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Sudden rain and thundershowers lashed the city on Wednesday evening, bringing respite to the people from the scorching heat.

The mercury in the State Capital was hovering over the 40 degree Celsius-mark for over a fortnight and the past few days had turned humid and torrid causing untold hardship to people.

The day began on an oppressive note with hot and humid conditions and even as people reeled under their onslaught, the heavens opened up towards evening much to the joy of the citizens. There was 0.6 mm rainfall till 8.30 p.m.

The Hyderabad Met Office attributed the change in weather to a `well marked low pressure area' in the Bay of Bengal leading to isolated rainfall in several parts of the State, including Hyderabad.
