Identity cards given to Sri Lankan refugees
Staff Reporter
PUDUKOTTAI:
A total of 2,208 Sri Lankan refugees accommodated at three camps in the district got identity cards issued by the Department of Rehabilitation, Chennai, on Thursday.
There are 3,719 refugees at Thoppukollai, Thekkattur and Azhiyanilai villages.
Of them, 2,632 above the age of 12 years have been identified for issuing the card.
Distributing the cards to the inmates of the Thoppukollai camp, the Collector, S.J. Chiru, said the cards would ensure their free movement.
On their plea for extension of maternity assistance for women under the Muthulakshmi Reddy memorial scheme, the Collector said that the State Government had recently made an announcement in this regard.
The Collector assured them that steps would be taken to shift the Anganwadi near their camp.
