Six injured as AIADMK, PMK workers clash
Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE:
Six persons were injured in a clash between activists of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Pattali Makkal Katchi at Natham near here on Thursday.
The police have secured T. Ilayaraja (25), D. Anandavel (21) and M. Sivakumar (27).
One of them has been admitted to a private hospital and the others are being treated at the government hospital here.
Ever since the local body elections, the two parties had been at loggerheads. Before the Natham panchayat was reserved for women, Govindasamy of the AIADMK used to get elected, almost unopposed, to the post of president for 20 years. But in the last elections, R. Sundari of the PMK defeated Govindasamy's wife G. Manjula. When the PMK workers called on representatives of the opposition camp for a patch-up on Thursday, there was resistance, which resulted in a quarrel and then to the clash.
