This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru disregarded all security measures when he suddenly appeared to attend an "at home" given by the Vidya Bhavan Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr on May 3. He came, unaccompanied by his usual motorcycle pilot and follow-up police van, in a car, without flying any flag. Security men took some time to locate him. They went round the town and ultimately found him in the midst of children, listening to Qawali songs. Mr. Nehru surprised his hosts, as he had not even acknowledged the invitation. The children were overjoyed and many affectionately embraced him.
