Foodgrains seized in Kayamkulam

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: A team from the District Civil Supplies on Friday raided an illegal godown at Mukkavala in Kayamkulam and seized nearly 700 sacks of grains that were allegedly diverted from the Public Distribution System (PDS).

According to District Supplies Officer (DSO) M.R. Thulasidasan, the seized goods comprised 643 sacks of boiled rice and 43 sacks of wheat. The godown, which was owned by John Baby, was rented out to Shafique, who runs a rice store in Kayamkulam.

The team comprising Mavelikara taluk supply officer V. Anujan; ration inspectors Shahjahan, Induchoodan, Mohan Simon, Sadasivan Unnithan and Mohana Chandran Pillai; carried out the raid on the basis of a tip-off.

A case has been registered against Mr. Shafique.
