COLOMBO: Sri Lanka would suspend night operations at its only international airport for six hours from May 9/10, as a precautionary measure in the wake of the recent aerial strikes by the nascent air wing of the Tamil Tigers. "Flights would either land or take off from the Bhandaranayake International Airport (BIA) between 10.30 p.m. to 4.30 a.m. from May 9 as part of a new security drill put into operation by the Government following recent development," an official told The Hindu over phone. He said the closure would not lead to withdrawal of services by international airlines. After the April 29 pre-dawn air raid by the Tigers, at least three international airlines suspended night flights. vinces.
