A feast of fun for children

NEW DELHI: A two-day children's painting and dance competition marking the Russian Children's Protection Day and dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Indo-Russian diplomatic relations organised jointly by the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and Nehru Bal Samiti ended here on Friday.

National Art Centre Chairman Roop Chand inaugurated the painting competition. Of the 700 children from 46 educational institutions who took part in the painting competition, about 100 were selected for awards. International Council of Education (US) Chairperson Prabhjot Kaur inaugurated the dance competition.

Seminar on Thalassemia

NEW DELHI: Thalassemics India is celebrating World Thalassemia Day along with its 20th anniversary this year. A seminar on "Prevention of Thalassemia" will be held this Sunday at Gulmohar Hall of India Habitat Centre.

According to Thalassemia India secretary Shobha Tuli, there is hardly any awareness about thalassemia among the public and prevention is the only answer to the problem. Also, treatment is extremely expensive and beyond the reach of most patients.

Student innovators to represent India

NEW DELHI: The winning team of Imagine Cup India-2007, the world's premier platform for student innovators, is all set to represent the country at the global contest in Korea in August this year.

From the three teams -- Aabha from IIIT, Allahabad; Blue Leaf from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Technology, Ahmedabad; and Gras from Goa Institute of Technology -- there will be one India winner.

CET on Monday

NEW DELHI: The Common Entrance Test for admission to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University here for 2007-08 will begin this Monday.

The University will conduct 20 CETs this year for admission to its 35 programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The CET will be spread over two weeks with the first exam of B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing starting this Monday. B. Tech./M. Tech. (Dual Degree) Biotechnology will be the last one on May 20. Over 1.25 lakh applicants are likely to compete for around 11,500 seats offered by the University.

For the first time, CET for four programmes -- MBA, MBBS, B. Tech. and MCA -- will be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow and Bhopal.
