Daylong carnival for peace today

Staff Reporter

It will bring together artisans from different parts of south India

BANGALORE: Visthar, in collaboration with Interfaith Cooperation Forum, is celebrating a daylong festival with a difference called "Just Peace" on Saturday from 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. at Visthar's tree-sheltered campus.

The festival is the culmination of the "School of Peace", a four-month training programme for participants from conflict zones in south and south east Asia grappling with perspectives and issues of justice and peace.

The carnival includes the screening of documentary films from Myanmar, the Philippines, Indonesia and India, traditional Indian and international food, a photo exhibition of people's struggles, sale of terracotta products, herbal products and organic spices; massages, steam baths and folk arts display.

It will bring together artisans from different parts of south India displaying their craftsmanship and products — artisans at work on looms and lathes (from Channapatna), a paper workshop (recycled paper) and a potter's wheel, apart from cultural performances of music, dance and drama.

The carnival promises to interest both children and adults alike with traditional games from the South Asian region and also other cultural activities (traditional and modern), which will involve theatre, music and dance.

Free bus services are available every two hours to and from the venue, the bus route being the St. Mark's Cathedral, Shivajinagar (opposite Bowring Hospital), Thomas Café, Lingarajapuram, Hennur depot and Dodda Gubbi.

Visthar can be contacted on Ph: 28465294/28465295, fax: 0091-80-28465294 or on email visthar@vsnl.com.
