Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday stayed an order of the ombudsman for local self-government restraining the Ernakulam District Panchayat from reconstructing Government District Ayurveda Hospital building at Kacherripadi. Justice T.R. Ramachandran Nair issued the stay order on a writ petition filed by the secretary, District Panchayat. The petitioner said that the ombudsman passed the stay order when a petition filed by Binjumon seeking to rehabilitate the in-patients at the hospital came up. The ombudsman also ordered that it was better to utilise the land for some other fund generation purposes and shift the hospital to another place where more serenity and tranquillity prevailed. The ombudsman directed the panchayat not to reconstruct the hospital building till the Government took a decision on the ombudsman's suggestions. The panchayat said that it had earmarked funds for reconstruction of the hospital building in 2000. The hospital building was in a dilapidated condition. But the panchayat could not take up the reconstruction work then due to various reasons. The petition of the panchayat said that the Government had already granted sanction for demolition and reconstruction of the building. It had been decided to shift the inpatients in the hospital to the Thripunithura Ayurveda Hospital.
