Delhiites have a gloomy morning

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Delhiites woke up to a gloomy, overcast morning on Friday as the sun refused to break free from the clouds for a major part of the day.

Some parts of the Capital also experienced a light drizzle in the afternoon. The maximum temperature recorded at Safdarjung was 36.5 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees below normal and almost 3 degrees less than Thursday's. The minimum temperature hovered around a pleasant 26.5 degrees Celsius, 3 degrees above normal.

"The cloudy conditions were due to the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over Punjab and Haryana. Cyclonic circulation prevails over Uttar Pradesh too," said a Meteorological Department official.

Thunder and squall are likely on Saturday, added the official.

The maximum temperature on Saturday is likely to be around 38 degrees Celsius. Though showers cannot be ruled out, it is likely to be light and scattered rain.

The weatherman said such cloudy conditions are not unusual in summer.
