Shahbuddin convicted in murder case
Special Correspondent
PATNA:
A special court in Siwan on Saturday convicted the incarcerated Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Md. Shahbuddin in a case of kidnapping for murder. But the court acquitted him in two other cases relating to assault and a bomb blast incident.
Additional District and Sessions judge Gyaneshwar Prasad Shrivastava, who conducted the trial in the Siwan Jail, found Mr. Shahbuddin guilty of kidnapping CPI (ML) worker Chhote Lal Gupta in February 1999 and murdering him. He will pronounce the quantum of punishment on May 8.
The police failed to recover Mr. Gupta's body. It named only Mr. Shahbuddin in the FIR as the other accomplices were not identified.
The judge however acquitted Mr. Shahbuddin in two other cases of 1998 relating to the explosion of a bomb near the DAV College and assaulting a spinning mill employee.
