Matka racket busted, 12 held

Rs. 2.05 lakhs, three mobiles confiscated

ANANTAPUR: The One Town Police busted a `matka' operating gang and arrested 12 persons, including a womanhere on Saturday. They also confiscated Rs. 2.05 lakhs and three mobile phones from the matka organisers and beaters.

Anantapur Deputy Superintendent of Police G.S. Karunakar told newspersons that acting on specific information, a police team led by One Town Circle Inspector Y.V. Parameshwar Reddy and Sub Inspector B. Shubha Kumar raided the dilapidated shed behind the market yard when matka operators -- C. Nagesh, G. Prakash and Sisindri -- were counting the money received from matka beaters.They also arrested matka beaters -- S. Govardhan Reddy, V. Mohan, P. Shankar, M. Venkatesh, Mahabub Peera, B. Salamma, S. Nazim, S. Noor Basha and M. Chandra. Killer gang Meanwhile, the Two Town Police busted a three-member hired killer gang and seized six country-made bombs and three hunting sickles.

The three arrested were Prabhakar, Sreeramulu and Subba Naidu. Sreeramulu was accused in several criminal cases including murders.

Acting on information that the gang was laying in wait to attack and kill one Anjaneyulu near Rudrampet, Circle Inspector B. Vijaykumar, Sub Inspector Prasad Reddy and their team arrested the three.
