Panel created for AMU V-C's post

ALIGARH: A special meeting of the Executive Council of Aligarh Muslim University here on Saturday recommended a panel of five names to the University Court for appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor.

The five names are: Cochin University of Science and Technology Vice-Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis; Director of the Hyderabad-based National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, S. M. Ilyas; Deputy Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Zameeruddin Shah; Vice-Chancellor of the Nagpur-based Rashtrasant Tukovoji Maharaj University, S. N. Pathan; and Monirul Hasan from Guwahati University.

The meeting was presided over by acting Vice-Chancellor M. Saleemuddin. All the 26 members of the Council took part in the meeting and the panel was approved in a peaceful manner, said a University release.

AMU Vice-Chancellor Naseem Ahmad had resigned from the post last month following differences with leaders of the students' union.
