HYDERABAD: Unseasonal rain and hailstorms damaged paddy crop and mango orchards in Karimnagar, Nalgonda and Medak districts. According to reports received by the Disaster Management officials here, sunflower, soyabean and red-gram crops were also damaged. In some places, mango trees were blown off by the gale. A large quantity of paddy lying in the open at the Agriculture Market Yard in Siddipet Mandal in Medak district was soaked in the rain. The paddy, which was kept for purchase by the Government agencies, could not be covered due to the non-availability of gunnysacks. In Karimnagar too, the rains caused severe damages to the paddy crop and mango groves in Huzurabad, Husnabad, Shankarapatnam Jagtial, Peddapalli, Sultanabad, Odela and Karimnagar mandals. Several trees and electric poles were uprooted and houses were also damaged due to the gale. Heaps of paddy, which was bought to the agricultural market yards in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial and Huzurabad market yards, was damaged causing concern among the farming community. In Karimnagar agricultural market yard, the farmers were seen wailing after seeing their paddy being washed away in the rains. Meanwhile, there was isolated rain in Coastal Andhra and other areas of Telangana while weather remained dry in Rayalaseema. Peddapuram, Dubbak, Coonavaram, Nalgonda recorded a rainfall of 3 cm each; Parvathipuram 2 cm and Bobbili, Komarada, Salur, Narsipatnam and Polavaram each 1 cm.
