Munnar: KSEB to cut power connections

Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan has said that the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will cut power connections to the buildings on the encroached land at Munnar.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the Minister said the KSEB would re-examine the documents submitted by these building owners for power connection. If the documents were found fake, action would be taken against them, he said.

Warns of action

The Minister said he had received information that some land at the project areas of the KSEB at Neriamangalam in Idukki had been encroached upon. He said he would visit Neriamangalm on Sunday to make an on-the-spot assessment.

He said immediate action would be taken to evict encroachers.

The Minister, also in charge of welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, said 1.25 lakh houses would be constructed for the Scheduled Castes who were in the below poverty line (BPL) category in the next four years.

In the current financial year, 20,000 houses would be constructed.

The State-level inauguration of the project was held at Mahalikoodam at Thenkurissi, near Kuzhalmannam, on Saturday.

The Minister said that in the last financial year, 80 per cent of the funds allotted by Central and State Governments for SC/ST development were utilised.
