BHUBANESWAR: Forest Department officials have kept their fingers crossed on movement of a herd of elephants that threatened to enter the densely- populated colonies of the city on Saturday. It had been over 50-hours by Saturday evening the herd was menacingly roaming around campuses of one Film Studio, Dock Research Institute and Forest Department's Silviculture Research. The reason: an elephant calf has been separated from the herd that is in no mood to leave it alone in the city. According to eye estimate, the herd comprises a tusker, four female elephants and a calf. The herd entered the Kalinga Studio on Thursday night and remained there through out Friday. By the time they should have returned to Chandaka Elephant Sanctuary but there was a twist, Chandaka Divisional Forest Officer Akshaya Pattnaik told The Hindu .He said the elephant calf had strayed into Silviculture Research campus while the main herd stayed put at Dock Research Institute. Forest department officials managed to get control over the situation after stopping vehicular movement between Dock Research Institute and Silviculture campus.
