KANCHEEPURAM: The Guduvancheri police have arrested a gang of six robbers who waylaid people at and around Maraimalai Nagar in the recent past. The police received information at 4 p.m. on Wednesday that a gang had waylaid a passenger at the Kolapakkam bus stand. A team rushed to the spot and intercepted the gangsters who were travelling on two motorcycles at the Kolapakkam market. Their interrogation revealed that Venkatesan and Manikandan of Medavakkam, Murugan of Adambakkam, Navamani of Ashok Nagar, Balakrishnan of St.Thomas Mount and Babu of West Velachery were involved in robberies at Maraimalai Nagar, Kattankolathur and Oorapakkam. The motorcycles, lethal weapons, two cellular phones, 104 grams of gold jewels and Rs.1, 900 in cash were seized.
Sum missing
The Post Master of the Choonambedu Post Office lodged a complaint with the Choonambedu police on Friday that Rs.20,000, sent along with letters and parcels from the Madurantakam Head Post Office, was found missing. In his complaint, Mr. Ezhumalai said the mailbag, sent through a State Transport Corporation bus on Thursday morning, was received by Senthilkumar, brother of extra departmental postman Kalaiselvan who was on leave. When the bag was opened at the post office, the money order amount was found missing.
