District Planning Committee members assume charge

As many as five were elected for urban areas and seven represent rural pockets

TIRUCHI: All the 12 newly elected members of District Planning Committee formally assumed charge during the first meeting of the committee held here on Saturday.

The chairperson of the district panchayat, V. Sankeetha, who is also chairperson of District Planning Committee, the Collector, Ashish Vachhani, and the MLA, M. Rajasekaran, were present.

The following assumed charge as members of the panel:

V.C. Sudhakar; J. Senthilnathan; D. Thangaraj; D. Palraj; L. Rajasekaran; V. Selvaraju; T.M. Sabibullah; K.S.M. Karunanidhi; P.R. Singaram; S.P. Thiyagarajan; B. Prabu; and R. Raja.

While the first five members were elected for urban areas comprising all town panchayats, municipalities and the corporation, the other seven represent rural areas, including the district panchayat.

Greetings

The elected representatives of the district panchayat, panchayat unions and village panchayats greeted the new members.

The District Planning Committee will be in-charge of chalking out the district level development plan for implementation of Central and State Government sponsored programmes.

The committee members will assess the infrastructure gaps and requirement, keeping in mind the locally available resources and future requirements for comprehensive and overall development of the district.
