MADURAI: The Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare, A. Tamilarasi, inaugurated the sale of pulses and palm oil through the public distribution system in the district on Saturday. Addressing a function organised to mark the inauguration at a ration shop in Naganakulam, the Minister said that the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi, had ordered the sale of pulses and palm oil through fair price shops in an effort to control the prices of essential commodities. She also listed out the price of each of the items - Toor Dal Rs.34 a kg, Blackgram Rs.40 a kg, palm oil Rs.40 a litre, Sooji Rs.17 a kg and Maida Rs.16 a kg. Every cardholder could buy one kg/one litre of all these items. The District Collector, S.S. Jawahar, said that all the items would be packed before being supplied to consumers. Mr. Jawahar said that the district administration had stocked 63 tonnes of Toor Dal, 10 tonnes of pulses and 57,000 litres of palm oil to be sold through 1,056 ratio shops in the district. The District Panchayat president, P. Ashok Kumar, District Revenue Officer, C. Rajamani, the Joint Registrar of Cooperatives, N. Vilvasekaran, the Senior Regional Manager of Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, Charles Simon, and the District Supply Officer, A. Thangaraja, were among those who were present.
